2006 Rally for a Cure raises $6,500.00
Brigantine Beach, New Jersey…The Links at Brigantine Beach hosted the Fourth Annual Rally For A Cure Golf Tournament on Tuesday, July 25, 2006. The highly anticipated event is held to raise much needed dollars for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Founded in 1996, the Rally for a Cure with Golf for Women Magazine has raised awareness of breast cancer and carried the life-saving message of early detection to hundreds of thousands of active women. This year's event drew a solid field of 144 golfers on a picture perfect day. After playing one of the best rounds ever on the golf course, the winning team of Tony Sentore, Mike Chisholm, Frank Cossio, and Joe Menta shot an impressive 18 under par. Second place at 13 under par went to Bill Jones, Chris Howe, Mark McTear, and Tim Sweeney, while the team of Harry Ruhl, Bill Sandifer, Sid Olson, and Aaron Alpern took home third place honors with 11 under par. Each winning team was awarded a foursome from area golf courses along with Rally For a Cure Trophies. In addition to the placement awards, prizes were awarded for closest to the pin and long drive. Frank Cossio and Leah Pocoroba smoked drives on hole #9 to win the long drive while Sid Olson, Dana Wineland, Frank Cossio, and Benny Jean Friel displayed pin point accuracy in winning the closest to the pin awards.
The awards ceremony and the fine cooking of Chef Chris Dattalo and his staff accentuated the post tournament events. General Manager Steve Brady commented on the presentations, "We are very proud to be able to host such a prestigious event. In addition to raising awareness for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, we were able to raise $6,500 in donations, which was an improvement over last year. This brings our 4-year total donation to over $20,000. I couldn't be more proud of our entire professional staff in taking an already established event to the next level. Special thanks are in order for Brian Hoey and Mollye O'Neill for spearheading many of the donations and sponsors and making this year's event a success."
The Rally for a Cure concluded with an enormous raffle drawing that included over fifty different prizes with values as much as $450 for each prize. The team of Kathy Herbein, Donna Michalowski, Lisa Savini and Sue Clark won the award for best-dressed team. Next years event is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 27th, 2007.
